DJ Cochamó - The heart of nature, music and the Spirits
In fact, the life of DJ Cochamó is a mystery itself. Born ’some time at the end of the 90’s’,
will be all, the shy and reluctant artist will reveal about his age. His roots lie in the history of
his native Chilean family, the Likan Antai. This Indigenous group lives in the North of Chile.
Famous for their strong relationship with nature, living a spiritual life. Calling the Atacama
Desert their home, as well as the Andes.
It’s the combination of his native roots, the spiritual consciousness and the celebration of
life, that builds the core of DJ Cochamó’s music. His DJ sets rose to fame as he always
appears un-announced. Rumours are painted that he might play at a festival. When he
shows up, his set use to enchant the masses. It is said that the energy of his music combines
love and spirit, creating harmony beneath the dancing crowd.
The choice for his brand ‘Cochamó’ follows this pattern. ‘Being raised at the driest place on
this planet, I chose the name ‘Cochamó’ for being the opposite.’Cochamó’ comes from
‘Kocha-Mo’, ‘the place where the waters unite’. It’s the perfect metaphor for me, not only
for longing to achieve far goals in life, longing for the things you cannot take for granted, but
also, appreciating the values you have been graced with. Like Yin and Yang in far east
philosophies I want to combine opposites by understanding. It’s the only way to achieve
peace.’
Choosing a song by ‘Goombay Dance Band’ for his first recorded attempt might sound a bit
odd at the beginning, but only until you hear the artist explain himself: ’It was actually my
girlfriend, who put together a playlist for her mother. When I heard that song, it was the
voice of Oliver Bendt that touched my heart. A pure, almost angelic energy that fills a room
with it’s presence. I wanted to capture this energy and combine it with my sound to bring it
into today’s world. Like me, a modern man who still embraces his ancient soul. This voice is
the perfect gift for my art.’
The result turns this classic hit from the 80’s into a modern dance anthem. Harmonies and
beats unite GOA with the Andes. A pure experience that will introduce the Goombay Dance
Band to a new generation and a cautious DJ from Chile to the European market. The silent
and reluctant times might be over soon for this musician who’s talent is much too valuable
to be hidden.
